News Story Review for Unbiased Journalism-myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theNews Story Review for Unbiased Journalism. Answer: The news event being addressed for this study is the recent case of ball tampering conducted by three Australian players and the punishment dealt to them. Both the news stories revolve around the unethical practices by the Australian players. The themes and ideas that are relevant to the unit are the news value, unbiased journalism and credibility of the newspaper[1]. Two news stories from CNN and The Guardian have been referred to for this paper. However, both the reports addresses the same issue but from a different news angle. One addresses the unethical practices conducted by the Australian players and the other is much concerned about the future of the Australian cricket team. Both news stories address the public sentiment and are impartial in their addressing of the topic. The report from CNN addresses the issue that even though the Australian team is famous for its groundbreaking performance, yet the recent scandal has severely impacted the integrity of the Australian cricket team and asks whether it is the appropriate time to bring about more strict changes regarding the punishment for unfair and unethical practices in the sport[2]. The report from Guardian addresses the issue from the viewpoint of the Australian sentiment and states how the ban imposed on the three accused players should be reduced, according to the statement presented by the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) to the Cricket Australia[3]. Both the news stories address the same topic, however they differ in the perspective through which it would be viewed. One news story is impartial and covers both public opinion and statements of the Australian cricket administration in its reporting while the other in its reporting, states the emotional and sentimental turmoil that the Austra lian cricket scenario is currently experiencing. Regardless, the CNN news story compiles public reaction and statements in its report relating to the topic, but The Guardians news report is only based on the ACAs statements to the CA and their feelings and remarks regarding the ban. Both the news stories are based on recent and relevant information, which is unusual in nature and are based on proven facts. The reporters too have been impartial and unbiased in their reporting of the event. Cricket is a global sport, which finds its appeal among individuals from all over the world. The Australian cricket team had always prided itself being a dominant force in the sport. However, the recent acts committed by 3 renowned players, involving the Captain and the Vice-Captain came as a shock and disgraceful act to many. Therefore, the most relevant news value that can be considered for both news stories is the value of impact[4]. The news stories are based on a event that had a great impact over the global base of cricket fans, is negative in nature, based on an unexpected act and is not a event which occurs frequently. Apart from this, the news story found a great appeal to the worldwide audience and is easy to grasp as well. Thus, the consideration of all of these char acteristics, imply the presence of the impact value of news story[5]. Both news stories somewhat present the same event and thus share the same news value but The Guardians news story has a presence of human interest value as well. The news article by the CNN compiles its report with the statements made by the Australian Captain (now former) Steve Smith in the press conference, along with statements from the former Australian Prime Minister and a Network Ten cricket commentator. It also reports the statements made by the former Australian cricket legends and cricket journalists as well. The report from The Guardian is compiled only on the basis of the statements issued by the ACA president, who spoke on behalf of the entire ACA. These resources play a significant role in the journalists construction of the story since their reports are inclusive of remarks from prominent sources of authority and relevance. A good news story is supposed to include the opinions of individuals who are known to the public and are also in a suitable position of power, making them more accurate, reliable and significant to the audience/readers, and both of the news stories follow this rule in their reporting style[6]. In recent times, the sources of news have grown in abundance. There is a rising trend of printing news regarding the information gained from confidential or anonymous sources and whistleblowers. The social media networks like Facebook and Twitter have become great sources of news as well. However, the most reliable sources of news are considered to be the following:- Press conferences Statements made by celebrities and politicians (or prominent and famous individuals) Press releases News published by the Associated Press Content posted on official and government websites Relevant files (can be later used as evidence) At present, Twitter too can be considered a reliable source since news stories arise from the tweets posted by the prominent people themselves, and can be checked later on[7]. All of these above stated sources are considered believable by the people due to their assurance of providing accurate information and facts. Public sphere is a concept that states that the exchange and discussion of opinions between two people may lead to the formation of a common judgment. A proper news story is supposed to report the news in a manner that it affects the thought process of the reader and generates an opinion in his head. The news story reported by CNN is related to public sphere since it addresses the news in a way that is less in facts but is more based on the opinions of people regarding the event that occurred. The news from The Guardian addresses the same issues and affects the psychology of the reader. The reader may either feel outraged and form an opinion that a more strict punishment should have been imparted, or he may form the opinion that even though the players were found guilty, they are remorseful for their actions and a long term ban would ruin their career as well as lives. However, after reading both the news stories, one forms the judgment that the players were wrong in their actions an d have accepted their mistakes openly, along with receiving their punishment[8]. Thus, due to these reasons, it can be said, that news media plays a public sphere role in the reporting of this issue. They often form to self directed teams. Employee competency is another important HPWP; Successful organizations invest in employee development through training, which excels the employeeââ¬â¢s output. The most important HPWP is to link skills and performances of employees to various types of financial and non financial rewards, valued by the employees. At present, PG Canada is rewarding the employees by nonfinancial rewards, but they should consider and link the performances of individuals and teams with financial rewards, that the employees value more. This will definitely improve the organizational effectiveness in PG Canada through this awards event. Answer Question # 02: Evaluation of PG awards event against the five strategies for improving reward effectiveness, Link Rewards to Performance: According to the OB modification theory and expectancy theory, employees with better performance should be rewarded more than those with poorer performance. PG Canada should apply this pay-performance linkage by minimizing the inconsistencies and bias through gain sharing, ESOPs, and other plans. PG Canada should also rely on multiple sources of information. PG Canada should also need to apply rewards soon after the performance occurs. Ensure that Rewards are Relevant: PG Canada needs to align rewards with performance within employeeââ¬â¢s control. The more employees see a link between their performance and reward, the more they are motivated to improve their performances. They may link bonus reward for the executives with the overall performance of the company, whereas sales and marketing front line employees can earn bonus on their sales performance. Situational factors should be kept in mind. Use Team Rewards for Independent Jobs: As per existing policy of PG Canada, they should continue to focus on team rewards, as it encourages cooperation and tends to support employee preferences for team-based work. This becomes more important when employees work in highly interdependent jobs. The only disadvantage is that the most productive employees may prefer rewards based on their individual performance. Ensure that Rewards are Valued: It is obvious that rewards work best when they are valued. PG Canada should be careful of making false assumptions about what employees want. The best way is to ask employees what they value. It may be cash money or some kind of useable household items with company logo thereon. Watch Out for Unintended Consequences: Financial rewards can influence employees in complex ways. PG Canada should be careful for unintended consequences and behaviors of the employees. To receive a handsome bonus, sales staff may results in wrong sales that may damage the companyââ¬â¢s repute in the market. They should test incentives in a pilot project before applying them across the company.

securities and exchanges commission essays
securities and exchanges commission essays To: Securities and Exchange Commission From: Bryan Economic Analysis, Inc. Re: Report on Stock Prices of Internet Companies In Response to the SEC memorandum regarding the adoption of the policy of capping the stock prices of internet-related companies at 90% of their current value, Bryan Economic Analysis, Inc. has come to the following conclusions. Bryan Economic Analysis, Inc. agrees that if something is not done regarding the price of stock of internet-related companies, a drastic drop in the price of these stocks will eventually occur. This drop in the price of these stocks will have an incredibly adverse effect on the state of the US economy and the world stock market in general. The problem of this venture would be that capping of stock prices will result in temporary inefficiencies and a shortage in the market for stocks. However, the capping of stock prices is highly necessary to the future of the US economy. If the prices of these stocks continue to rise without check, the inevitable drop would cause the US to enter into an era of deep recession. The fate of the US economy depends on the capping of the stock prices of internet-related companies. If something were not done, the US economy and the worlds financial markets would experience devastating consequences. This report intends to show why it is necessary to put a cap on the price of stock of internet-related companies for the continuation of a prosperous economy, even though short-term inefficiencies will occur. If the SEC were to put a cap on the price of stock of internet-related companies, several things would occur. First of all, the price would be lowered by 10%, causing an increase in the quantity of stock demanded, because buyers are more willing to buy at the lower price. The demand cur ...

Set size and search type effect on search time during visual search Essay
Set size and search type effect on search time during visual search task - Essay Example Feature Integration theory There are a number of researches with various stimuli, while most prevalent idea proposed for human visual search comes from A. Treisman (1980), who conducted a research illustrating Feature integration theory. It asserts that a visual search is faster in presence of dissimilar background and the number of distracters involved in background do not affect the time consumption in case of a feature search (a search that involves identification of a direct feature like color, shape, orientation or curvature). On the other hand, a conjunction search is affected widely with the number of distracters presented in the background. A conjunction search is defined as a search which does not involve a direct feature but a similarity of multiple features among the various objects. (For example ââ¬Ëblue squareââ¬â¢ has similarities with ââ¬Ëblue triangleââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëred squareââ¬â¢.) Consequent of the propositions, feature integration theory illustrate s that those two searches consists of different methodology for human visual search. Those methods are characterized as parallel searches and serial searches for feature and conjunctive patterns. As further illustrated in Feature Integration theory, feature search and conjunction search differ widely on time consumption patterns as conjunction search follows a twofold process which requires identifying the features and categorizing the conjunctions to create a pattern of search. The distracters found in the patterns are responsible for time consumptions. The feature-integration theory of attention suggests that attention must be directed serially to each stimulus in a display whenever conjunctions of more than one separable feature are needed to characterize or distinguish the possible objects (Treisman and Gelade, 1980) There are number of arguments and theoretical results that involve some serious diversions and modification to this theory. However, most of the theories involve th e base of feature integration which asserts that there are found clear differences in the types of searches when direct features are involved or eliminated. Other theories and Guided search In contrast with feature integration theory there are some proposition which offers different arguments and researches for visual search. A major theory is in the propositions of Wolfe (1989) who offers a broad research for how visual search is not limited only to the factors if the searches are parallel or serial but it also depends largely on the motivating factors for a visual search. Wolfe presents this theory as the guided search theory. In his propositions, a number of subjects were passed through the experiments with varying number of stimuli and the data outcome was measured over the graphs to provide a serious deflection from Feature integration patterns. Subjects searched sets of items for targets defined by conjunctions of color and form, color and orientation, or color and size. Set s ize was varied and reaction times (RT) were measured. For many unpracticed subjects, the slopes of the resulting RT x Set Size functions are too shallow to be consistent with Treisman's feature integration model, which proposes serial, self-terminating search for conjunctions (Jeremy M. Wolfe, 1989). As those results offer a diversion in self-terminating s

Housewife to Career Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Housewife to Career - Term Paper Example Whatever a woman did, fell in the category of non remunerative work. Howsoever hard a woman worked and contributed towards the smooth running of the house, the society at large, did not appreciate that. And at the end of the day, the woman was still dependent on the man for any monetary support. Any misdemeanour by the man was pardoned because he is doing the most important thing; earning money. The woman was destined to live her life as a ââ¬Ëdependentââ¬â¢ and at the whims and fancies of her spouse and family. Things had to change and they did. More and more women began to join the workforce. For some, it bolstered the family income, for others getting employment was breaking free from the humdrum of the daily life. Getting employed was kind of breaking the shackles and living a life of dignity. This transition from a housewife to a career woman has not been easy for various reasons. This paper details the problems women face, at home as well as in office, when they opt to work. It also puts forth data which establishes the presence of a glass ceiling in organizations that thwarts the progress of women. An attempt has been made to gauge the reality when it comes to the number of women actually making to the top of the corporate ladder. The first stumbling block on the road to progress is the mindset; the opinion that the other members of the family, especially the elders, have about the housewife no longer remaining a housewife and going out of the house to work. This orthodox mindset is an added mental pressure on the woman whose original responsibilities of managing the household remain with her, irrespective of the fact that she has now started working and started contributing towards the finances of the household. There is no denying the fact that women also have more personal and social pressures than men. If in a family where
