Sociology Research Essay Sociology Research Essay Cassandra M Nagy- Palmieri I See Research December 13, 2014 This article is a report of new research which is established by doing a survey on both members of 430 couples in different regions of Turkey and vary between different ages as well. Level of education is associated with exposure to individualistic western values; therefore, it may inï ¬âuence measures associated with marriage. We know the type of the article by reading about the procedure that had done and the way they had done it, and also they included results and discussions that came after the survey was completed. The article is studying the married couple relationship in Turkey in both type of marriage, the traditional way and the couples who got married after a love story. The Turkish families are described by a high level of correlation and communication between marital pairs and families of origin. Usually, husbands are expected to be older and the one how dominate the household. Male power and masculinity stereotypy are dependable with both Islamic views and with the tr adition of Turkic cultures. .Educational level was positively related to menââ¬â¢s involvement to housework, womenââ¬â¢s satisfaction with division of labor and frequency of womenââ¬â¢s visits with friends, menââ¬â¢s and womenââ¬â¢s level of feelings for spouse and it was negatively related to frequency of visits with relatives and enmeshment with families of origin. Access Restrictions to Social Security Death Index
Access Restrictions to Social Security Death Index The Social Security Death Master File, maintained by the US Social Security Administration (SSA), is a database of death records collected from a variety of sources used by the SSA to administer their programs. This includes death information collected from family members, funeral homes, financial institutions, postal authorities, States and other Federal agencies. The Social Security Death Master File is not a comprehensive record of all deaths in the United States- just a record of those deaths reported to the Social Security Administration. The SSA maintains two versions of the Death Master File (DMF): Theà full fileà contains all death records extracted from the SSA database, including death data received from the States, and is shared only with certain Federal and State agencies pursuant to section 205(r) of the Social Security Act.Theà public fileà (commonly referred to as the Social Security Death Index, or SSDI), as of 1 November 2011, doesà notà include protected death records received from the States. à According to the National Technical Information Service (NTIS), which disseminates the Death Master File, ââ¬Å"Section 205(r) of the Act prohibits SSA from disclosing state death records SSA receives through its contracts with the states, except in limited circumstances.â⬠This change removed approximatelyà 4.2 million of the 89 million deaths at that time contained in the public Death Master File (Social Security Death Index), and approximately 1 million fewer deaths are now added each year.à At the same time, the Social Security Agency also stopped including the decedentââ¬â¢s residential state and Zip code in the public file (SSDI). Why the Changes to the Public Social Security Death Index? The 2011 changes to the Social Security Death Index began with aà Scripps Howard News Service investigation in July 2011, that complained about individuals using Social Security Numbers for deceased individuals found online to commit tax and credit fraud. Large genealogy services which offered access to the Social Security Death Index were targeted as helping to perpetuate the fraud related to use of social security numbers for deceased individuals. In November 2011, GenealogyBank removed social security numbers from their free U.S. Social Security Death Index database, after two customers complained their privacy was violated when the Social Security Administration falsely listed them as deceased. In December 2011, following a petition sent to the five largest genealogy services who provided online access to the SSDI, byà U.S. Senatorsà Sherrod Brownà (D-Ohio),à Richard Blumenthalà (D-Connecticut),à Bill Nelsonà (D-Florida) andà Richard J. Durbinà (D-Illinois), A ncestry.com removed all access to the popular, free version of the SSDI that had been hosted on RootsWeb.com for over a decade. They also removed social security numbers for individuals who died within the past 10 yearsà from the SSDI database hosted behind their membership wall on Ancestry.com,à due to sensitivities around the information in this database. The Senators December 2011 petition urged companies to remove and no longer post on your website deceased individuals Social Security numbers because they believe that the benefits provided by making the Death Master File readily available online are greatly outweighed by the costs of disclosing such personal information, and that ...given the other information available on your website full names, birth dates, death dates à Social Security numbers provide little benefit to individuals undertaking to learn about their familial history.à While the letter conceded that posting the Social Security numbers is not illegal under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), it also went on to point out that legality and propriety are not the same thing. Unfortunately, these 2011 restrictions werent the end of the changes to public access to the Social Security Death Index. Pursuant to law passed in December 2013 (Section 203 of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013), access to information contained in the Social Security Administrationââ¬â¢s Death Master File (DMF) is now limited for a three year period beginning on the date of an individualââ¬â¢s death to authorized users and recipients who qualify for certification. Genealogists and other individuals can no longer request copies of social security applications (SS-5) for individuals who have died within the past three years under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act. Recent deaths are also not included in the SSDI until three years after the date of death. Where You Can Still Access the Social Security Death Index Online

Forming a Balanced Sentence in English Grammar
Forming a Balanced Sentence in English Grammar A balanced sentence is a sentence made up of two parts that are roughly equal in length, importance, and grammatical structure, as in theà advertisingà sloganà for KFC:à Buy a bucket of chicken and have a barrel of fun. In contrast with aà loose sentence, a balanced sentence is composed of aà paired constructionà on the level of the clause.à Although not necessarily indicative of meaningà by themselves, Thomas Kane notes in The New Oxford Guide to Writing that balanced and parallel constructions do reinforce and enrich meaning. Because the words that comprise the sentence are the true conveyers of intent, then, Kane intends balanced sentences to be understood as modifiers to rhetoric. Balanced sentences can come in a variety of forms. For instance, a balanced sentenceà that makes aà contrastà is calledà antithesis. Additionally, balanced sentences are considered rhetorical devices because they often sound unnatural to the ear, elevating the perceived intellect of the speaker. How Balanced Sentences Reinforce Meaning Most linguists agree that the primary utility of a well-stated balanced sentence is to provide perspective for the intended audience, though the concept does not convey meaning by itself. Rather, the optimum grammar tools to convey meaning are, of course, words. In John Peck and Martin Coyles The Students Guide to Writing: Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar, the authors describe the elements of balanced sentences: [Their] symmetry and neatness of structure... lend an air of being carefully thought out and weighed. Using this type of balance and symmetry can be particularly helpful for speechwriters and politicians to emphasize their points. Typically, though, balanced sentenced are considered to be a more conversational and, therefore, are most often found in poetic prose, persuasive speeches, and verbal communication than in academic publications.à Balanced Sentences as Rhetorical Devices Malcolm Peet and David Robinson describe balanced sentences as a type of rhetorical device in their 1992 book Leading Questions, and Robert J Connors notes in Composition-Rhetoric: Backgrounds, Theory, and Pedagogy that they developed in rhetorical theory later in its practice. Peet and Robinson use Oscar Wildesà quote children begin by loving their parents; after a time they judge them; rarely, if ever, do they forgive them to express balanced sentences as unnatural to the ear, used to impress, to suggest wisdom or polish, because they contain two contrasting and balanced elements. In other words, it presents a duality of ideas in order to convince the listener - or in some cases reader - that the speaker or writer is being especially explicit in his or her meaning and intent. Although first used by the Greeks, Connors notes that balanced sentences arent presented clearly in classical rhetoric, and often confused with antithesis - which is a different type of balanced sentence. Academics, Edward Everett Hale, Jr. notes, do not often use the form, as this form is rather an artificial form, conveying a natural style to prose.

2 page-paper brief for a case Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
2 page-paper brief for a case - Essay Example SDI defendants aggressively marketed a test for diagnosing a common sleep disorder. According to an affidavit sworn by IRS Special Agent Julie Raftery, they at times billed twice for their services and made reward payments to doctors who participated in their tests. The US government claims that SDI employees who were in participating physiciansââ¬â¢ offices would persuade patients to take part in a sleep study. As the cardiac diagnostic companies doing business with SDI would claim to complete a report of the results of the sleep studies, SDI staff would put fake stamps bearing the signatures of physicians reports. SDI would then recommend that a patient should take part in further studies, in which the patientââ¬â¢s health insurer would pay for them. The affidavit revealed cases of suspected tax fraud. At the end of a 2 year investigation led by the Internal Revenue Service with the active participation of 4 other federal and state agencies, investigators concluded that SDI F uture Health, Inc. had committed Medicare fraud. Based on the results gotten from the investigation, IRS Special Agent Julie Raftery sought for a warrant to search SDIs premises on January 28, 2002. The warrant was based on an affidavit which had information collected from 3 former employees and 2 associates of SDI. ââ¬âWhether the warrant incorporated Special Agent Rafterys affidavit can be evaluated to check if it meets [the Fourth Amendments] requirements. If incorporated, then the affidavit should be evaluated to see if it satisfies deficiencies in the warrant. The SDI defendants also purportedly forced patients to make visits to SDI clinics, and told them that their assigned doctors had asked them to participate in the sleep studies. The US government states that Kaplan and Brunk lack a base to challenge the search and collection of materials from SDIââ¬â¢s premises. According to the government, a corporate defendant has standing with respect to searches of corporate property and

Is Marijuana a Dangerous Drug Outline Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Is Marijuana a Dangerous Drug - Outline Example To mitigate the effect of our subjectivity on the research we shall need to either develop or adopt pre-established criteria to evaluate the source articles to be used in explaining the molecular activity of marijuana, and its effect on the brain and on human behavior (Granello, 2001). The pre-defined criteria will enable us to focus on the approach to tackle the topic, for instance, shall we utilize sources from a myriad of scientific disciplines (such as internal medicine, pharmacology, psychology, and psychiatry) or shall we restrict ourselves to specific disciplines. Also, the defined criteria should enable us to critically evaluate and make objective comparisons of the different research studies that are available (Granello, 2001). For example, when we are talking about the medicinal uses of marijuana there is the physical as well as the psychological factors at play.à Purpose:à The non-scholarly article (which we shall refer to as NS in this discussion), is written to raise awareness about the increasingly negative effects of drinking too much beer in combination with other factors within the room where the victim is drinking. The purpose of the scholarly paper is to increase knowledge in the given area of effects of alcohol on perception using the cognitive neuroscience approach.à Intended audience:à The NS is targeting beer-drinking working-class adults while the scholarly article is targeting academics and scholars such as those in the fields of neuroscience and neuropsychology.à Structure:à NS is written in an informal, journalistic structure where the focus is on the appealing ââ¬Ëbeer goggleââ¬â¢ hypothesis. Personal cultures - Essay Example In this regard, I utilize the utilitarianism concept. The framework states that I should take the interest of the patients first. In addition, the most framework asserts that the most ethical decisions are the ones that have maximum benefit to the patients. Thus, where professional ethics is a hindrance to effective care, personal ethics should be used. I was raised in a compassionate community where the life and wellbeing of everybody matters. As a result, I have respect for human health and life. I believe that humans should not suffer when I can give a hand. The culture is deeply embedded in me, and I use it to assist patients to the best of my ability in the nursing field. In addition, personal issues have influenced my ethical behavior. I have witnessed the suffering of friends and relatives as a result of neglect or medical errors. As such I endeavor to consider every aspect of treatment. I am a spiritual person and have been brought up as a Christian. Christianity advocates for compassion to all people. In my position, I am privileged with the power to influence the health outcomes of patients. The religion constantly reminds me that the lives of patients are bestowed upon me, and thus I should play and active role in protecting them. The religious views play an important role when I am faced with ethical dilemmas. The teachings of compassion indicate that human life is precious and should not be influenced by humans. The religion has shaped my ethics in other aspects such as futile treatment and euthanasia. I am bound by spiritual reasoning to ensure that the patients receive due care in both primary and secondary care. As such, it is unethical to take away a life deliberately no matter the circumstance. The belief advises me to stay away from decisions to terminate the life of an individual voluntarily. In this regard, my ethics dictates that I should ensure that patients receive the required care until recovery or

Talis Spa Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Talis Spa - Essay Example Such circumstances has actually worked as a motivation for the study and the tourist destination in focus happens to be the Talise Spa situated in the city of Al Ain; which happens to be the fourth largest city in UAE. It is also known as the garden city because of the greenery; making it a unique location of for tourists. The study has been done in lieu to analyze the location in terms of its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Also a stake holder analysis has been conducted to identify the key stake holders and their impact on the business. Based on the analysis a strategic plan for the facility has been prepared which includes the preparation of a vision and mission statement, environmental impact analysis, developing a product development strategy and promotion or communication strategy (Kolb, 2008). Location Audit Location Description While describing the location in details it needs to mention that both Talise Spa as well as the city of Al Ain would be considered, simply because both the unique geographical elements and the infrastructure of the Talise Spa would play a major role in the overall strategic marketing and communications. The city of Al Ain is the fourth largest city in UAE and it is well known as the garden city due to the unique greenery. ... Due to such reasons Al Ain is one of the most popular tourist destinations for the people of UAE; especially during the summers. As a tourist location Al Ain is still a developing one. The city gets a lot of traffic in the summers; most of that are locals who have holiday houses in the city. However, as compared to its counterparts like Dubai, Al Ain gets very little foreign tourists. Talise Spa provides personalized treatments in all the thirteen private rooms of it. There are a range of experiences provided by the Talise Spa such as facials, body treatments and massages. To be a bit more detailed it provides body scrubs, aromatherapy, body wraps, full day packages, waxing, skin care treatments, etc. There is also availability of Food centres, play yards, food corner. The facilities provided by the authorities are excellent to say the least. However, there is still room for improvement as the authorities are looking to position the spa as a place to have fun; which also reflects the cultural heritage of the country. Reason for choice Again in this section, both Talise Spa and Al Ain have to be focused. The major reason for choice of Al Ain is the unique geographical conditions and rich cultural heritage. Also as compared to its counterparts like Dubai there is a lot of opportunity for development. Based on the initiatives of the government to develop Al Ain as a premier tourist location, it would most likely that slowly but surely the place would start to get traffics in the forms of foreign tourists and hence it would be impotent to have a facility like Talise Spa that provides an array of services under one roof reflecting the cultural heritage of UAE. Location SWOT Analysis Strengths Excellent location, infrastructure
